Sparrow Hill track building session at Sparrow Hill

We are building the last track needed for the western access to the top gate - the current eastern access via Waterside Way & Funhouse will be unavailable for a few months after summer due to forest thinning operations.  So if you have been unable to join any of our previous work sessions, here is your chance to contribute to the track network.  Bring gloves, hat, drink, mattock & /or shovel if you have tools - mark your own equipment. Sparrow Hill trackwork session at Sparrow Hill

uncover/rebuild  the Western  route to the top gate via The original Dunny, Zippety's & McGinty's tracks. We will lose the current Eastern route via Waterside Way, Funhouse tracks after summer when the harvest crews return into Sparrow to carry out thinning operations in those areas .  Wear boots,gloves &  a hat. Sparrow Hill track recovery session at Sparrow Hill

Helpers are needed to recover some more tracks at Sparrow - no tools required, but wear boots, long pants (anti-thistles !!),gloves & hat.  Bring some drink.  Meet Alan & Paul at the Sparrow gate at 8:45 AM ; we work from 9 AM until approx 12:30 PM & then ride if you have the energy + time. We are asking riders to give up a couple of hours of ride time to help restore the place back to its former glory.See More

Gates on the new stuff at Orchard Rd & East Kowen & new return tracks.

A few riders have asked me about the possibilty of installing bike grids at the 4 internal gates in the loop - the gates are the only thing keeping the motoX mob out of the areas where the MTB tracks are. So I certainly wont be pursuing the question of grids at the gates.  Anybody who has ridden the MTB tracks in the main part of Kowen Forest after they have been "used" by the petrol powered boys will be aware of the state they are now in.  There is also a large cost involved in placing…

Orchard Rd / East Kowen loop is now marked

The Orchard Rd/East Kowen loop is now all marked with ORANGE RIBBON on sticks & hanging from tree branches, & a couple of BLUE ARROWS at important junctions- ignore any PINK ribbon that you may see around the place, its not part of the marked loop.  The loop is approx 18 kms & starts from the Sparrow Hill carpark & returns to the same point.  Take care when crossing onto the north side of the Kings Highway to get to the Orchard Rd gate – its a very busy 100 KPH zone.  The…
