KevJ replied to Milto's discussion 'Closed areas.'
"TAMS closes parks etc not solely because of mountain bikers riding trails. The ground is extremely soft and the danger of tree fall is very high. Hence, many parks remain closed despite the ground being ok to ride/walk/run/horse ride on. "

G'day Kevin  -  shame you were not able to join us yesterday;  here are some directions to get you into the Orchard Rd loop:  park as usual at Sparrow ; ride across to the other side of the H'way & ride abpprox 100 meters towards B'dore; turn left into Orchard Rd & chuck your bike over the forest gate (not the private gate on the left!) ; ride through 2 small creek crossings & approx 150 metres after the gate, keep  RIGHT at the fork; follow the treeline around the East side (ignore the grassy track marked "Yalgum Rd" on your right) ;  continue on the fireroad for approx 300 m up through grassy clear area until you see a large rock & the first of the native trees on your right ; I tied a bit of orange ribbon onto a tree at the entry point; follow the track through the scrub until you reach the entry point into the pine compartment;  follow the tyre marks & bits of ribbon as you climb East towards the high point;  look for bits of ribbon that get you up the hill - might be a bit vague in places as you get up higher - so follow tyre marks whenever possible. I have put the course through a fair bit of native scrub on the climb, but eventually you will go back into the pines at the base of the climb.  Enjoy ; I am planning another ride in a few weeks - probably Oz day - to be confirmed & advertised.   Paul
