Snakehips said… Hey Alister, I couldn't reply to your post on the old git's forum because although I am over 40 I am in denial and so haven't joined.
Anyhow +1 to Karl's comment, plus I'll also mention that peeps do post weekend rides (given that Karl's night riding options whilst excellent, do require one to have lights which you may not have).
Having said that Canberra is a bit of a funny place and most people have groups they ride with without posting them here. (I set this site up after moving to Canberra not knowing anyone and can still sometimes post a weekend ride up and only get 2 or 3 people on it out of the 800 or so members).
I'd suggest a couple of things - if you want to go on a ride get pro-active and post one up in Events. There is a tiny chance nobody will sign up (it really is tiny these days), and if you want to be shown around then mention that in the post so people don't expect you to lead out. You should also take a look at the CORC website, which is our local MTB club; they post a few social rides up too from time to time and you can pay for a 'day licence' if you're not a club member. www.corc.asn.au
Hope that helps, and hope to see you out there soon.
PS - you'll find rides and participation rates will pick up in September when it's warmer too!
Cheers, Morgan
Hi Alister, I saw your post on the "Mid Life Crisis" board & thought I would drop you a line. There are two regualar weeknight rides on Wednesday & Thrusday. The Wednesday crew are mainly out for a social gathering to either Majura or Bruce Ridge. Sometimes if there are no northsiders then us southsiders will just gather at Stromlo (usually at late notice though).
Thursday is a bit more serious as Richard is faily fit & keen & likes to get a few miles under his belt.
Both rides finish with a feed at a pub, anyone at any skill level is welcome & they are listed in the rides & events page every week. This is the best spot to keep track, there are social rides posted all the time.
Enjoy & hopefully we will cross paths soon.
