Ridden any Stromlo trails today & want to let everyone else know how they're looking? Let us know which track you were on, and what it's like today, here.
Comments will be kept to 4 or so latest to keep things fresh!

Yes, I was also out there Saturday morning (4th Feb).
The recent rain has really dampened the trails resulting in some boggy sections and new trails lines are starting to form.
I rode the main trunk trail, Magpie to Slick Rock, out to Deep Creek, then Missing Link, Party Line + back to carpark via Crim track etc...
Most trails are holding up pretty well, although the trails on the north western side of the mountain are pretty wet with loads of puddles and boggy sections. Wont take long for them to dry out with some warm dry weather although the new rutts and trail lines will probably hang around for a while.
Stromlo is closed - only for a little while I hope!

There is a list of open & closed tracks on the gate from the carpark
Permalink Reply by Argonut on March 14, 2012 at 18:09 Sorry guys - don't know what happened in my previous post - maybe a tech fail?
It was just a copy and paste of my post on the "closed" thread. If you want more info, please have a look there.
Agree with Stuart's comments, did loop 2 this arvo without too many dramas. About 2.30pm the "track closed" bunting was still across the track just past Echidna Gap junction, but the Stromlo boys said this was an oversight and the track was definitely open - hard for them to be everywhere at once and they were going to square it away after I told them.
Muddy patches here and there but nothing you can't ride through - Home View Junction was wettest/boggiest area of the lot. The main issue I found was sand/dirt that had collected on parts of the track and a few ruts caused by large water flow.
Their recommendation for anyone going further out was to try Roller Coaster and Slick Rock, but Pork Barrel is one of the ones closed as Stuart mentioned it's listed on the gate. Others include Cardiac Arrest, White Gums, and I think there were about three others. The Stromlo boys were going to try and get it up on the Stromlo Park website in the next few days, but no doubt they're busy on the tools!

G'day all,
Just thought I'd copy and paste this from the "Closed" thread. Sorry, I don't know how to link it or do reference it in any speccy way - enjoy!
------------------------------------------------
Just got back from doing loop 2 at Stromlo around lunch time. Chatted to some of the Stromlo park guys in their office afterwards. They're doing a heck of a job trying to get those tracks that are closed back in order. They've posted a list of closed tracks on the gate leading to the signage at the main car park. Sorry, I don't remember them all, but there's roughly half a dozen tracks closed - cardiac arrest, pork barrel, and a few other I haven't heard of/ ridden yet. They said they'll try to get the track info posted on the Stromlo site in a few days, but obviously the weather may make it redundant anyway. Their recommendation was roller coaster and slick rock if you're venturing further over the back with Crim Track and double disillusion rideable but a bit ordinary.
*** Around 2pm this arvo here was "track closed" bunting on loop 2 up near the observatory around echidna gap junction (leading toward skyline), the Stromlo boys said they'd take it down, as the trail IS open as per signage down at the car park. ***
As for the track itself - in a nutshell - the main issue is ruts caused by rushing water (will give your side walls a work out and make line choices a bit more simple!) and loose sand/dirt washed down from further up the hill. There are wet and boggy patches here and there where natural water courses cross the single track, but nothing that can't be ridden with care. Basically there's a bit more than usual to pay attention to. My skills and fitness are average at best and I got up and down ok. I'll drop this post into the Stromlo forum as well.
Unfortunately there's still riders going into closed off areas. Three I spoke to in the car park ignored the closed signs on pork barrel. Uppercuts all round boys!
Happy riding all - get in quick before more rain!
