Ok, so after a few adventure racing seasons as map carrier for my team I finally realised that I should put one of those things on my bike to hold the map between the handlebars (might be easier if…Continue

Just loaded a video onto Cycle Ed's Facebook page of my daughter getting a check point at last months MTBO - has a dash of jazz included. Enjoy :)

Had a great day at East Kowen yesterday. Nice to see the tracks busy and being used. The day turned out to be unexpectedly warmer than previous weeks so managed to overheat a bit. That's my excuse for leaving my brain back at the event hub. Had a dismal attempt at the Score event set by Bob Alison, who did a great job. With two options of accumulating as many points in 60 min or 90 min ride. I opted for the 60 min only to discover one of the single track options was waaaaay tougher than expected and wasted nearly 30 mins push biking to the top. Sigh! Was creamed in the points score by my 14 yr old daughter accumulating 150 pts to my paltry 100 pts. Even my 10 yr old collected 100pts. Clearly age is catching up....

Thanks Morgan,

I can't do Urban Polaris this year due to a family committment but the other options sound great!

Hey Lou, welcome to the site.

You'll find Canberra races on the ACT Orienteering website (I think they only do 4 a year but if more people find out about and participate in this fun sport it may grow!). I also think the program has finished for the summer.

There's also Orienteering Australia that has a list of MTBO events, and finally for your NSW fix, which includes a number of events in their calendar in the Southern Highlands and the South Coast, if you can't make all their events, is Mountain Devils. Their site has a bit of intersting stuff if you're new to MTBO.

That should get you started. Don't forget the Urban Polaris coming up in a couple of weeks too!

I'll be back into it in 2011 so may see you at some of the events.

Cheers, Morgan

Hey - I'm an adventure racer and so the idea of orienteering on the bike is pretty familiar but I like the idea of not also having to swim with my maps. Any tips for a newbie - regular events or training etc?

ACT Orienteering site notes it is ACT Championships on 24th Oct at Stromlo. I doubt this date will change.... but then again...

Hmmm, actually http://www.theberm.com.au/events/wayne-gregson says this is on 31 October. Is anyone able to clarify?

Hey Roland, I think it's the end of October. Hopefully one of the organisers will put the event up when it's finalised but otherwise look here http://act.orienteering.asn.au/events/?EventID=1849 - turns out it's the 24 October at Stromlo. Cool!

When is the next event in the Canberra area?
