Trail features (May 2011)
Trail type: All suitable for XC, steeper tracks for DH.
Summary: 2 distinct sections, the flat bit and the hill. Mainly hardpack singletrack throughout, occasional loose gravely/rocky section on the hillside; minimal firetrail sections. Some large obstacles (gullies, small manmade structures etc) on the flat area, otherwise fast & flowing.
Novice score: Flat section: 10/10. Hill section: 7/10 (some steep climbs and descents)
Climbs: Flat section: negligible climbing. Hill section: Shallow grade to steep hardpack singletrack with some rocky sections and roots. Occasional step-ups on some tracks.
Descents: Flat section: very shallow grade fast flowing hardpack, occasionally coastable. Hill section: Shallow grade to steep hardpack singletrack, some rocky and loose sections on the steep bits, some tight switchbacks, some roots and rocks. Downhill tracks have more obstacles but do-able on an XC bike.
Tricky bits: Gullies - some steep entries/exits, occasional jump (one obvious gully jump) require care, all rideable or avoidable.
There are no facilities at Majura but local shops are only 5 or 20 minutes away by car at Ainslie depending on where you park.

Majura is the ACT's oldest network of mountain bike trails. Located in a small Pine plantation to the North East of Canberra, it's just a 10 minute ride for lucky locals that live in Hackett and Ainslie.
Whilst the trails are well developed, and maintained by CORC (Canberra Off Road Cyclists) volunteers, many 'unsanctioned' trails and cut-throughs exist, making it tricky to put together a good loop on one hand, and dead fun to explore on the other. Attempts are being made to put in some signage but trails are not generally named on the ground.
Majura is an excellent venue for all levels of rider. Beginners can potter around the flat bits of the area on flowing, smooth singletrack; to the right of the main fire road from the Majura Road carpark are some really fun gullies and other goodies, whilst shifting your focus up the hill brings in more technical XC challenges aswell as out and out downhill runs. Mapping Majura is a bit of an exercise because of the number, and the tight twisty nature, of the trails, but there are a few maps out there and some are available through the links below.
Majura is a live pine plantation and as such access and trails can change. As of May 2011, logging was planned to occur at Majura in November/December 2010, but it has yet to happen. Updates on when, what and where will be posted in Majura trail news, or you can post it if you find out first! If you do come across signage for logging in any state forest, please obey the instructions for your own safety and to ensure continuing access for all.
Majura is also the subject of a planned realignment of Majura Road. To read more about this, click here. The good news is that as at May 2011, funding has not been secured for this project and it may be years rather than months before anything happens.
Before you head to Majura, check the resources below, or if you've already been, chuck a note in trail status updates to let everyone else know how the tracks are looking. Here are some useful resources....
Can I ride Majura today?
You won't generally be stopped by trail maintenance, but races and, yes, even weather can affect the rideability of many of Majura's tracks, especially on some of the flat bits. As mentioned above, logging might also ruin your day. So before you pack for that weekend away in Canberra and expect to ride Majura, check out the following links:

How do I get there?
Majura is accessible from two main car parks; the main parking area on Majura Road, out near the airport, or from Hackett. A third option is to park at Ainslie shops for a longer ride in, but more refreshments at the end. Majura Pines isn't signposted but throw either Tambreet Street, Majura or 39 Mackenzie Street, Hackett, into the GPS and you'll be right. Check out the map below for your parking options.
