The Berm

Canberra's Mountain Biking community network

Being soft (even though our team is HTFU) we thought we would stay the night on Sunday to try and get some sleep back - would anyone please be able to recommend a cheap and cheerful place to stay the night? Being from Sydney we have no idea...

Sean requests that I mention he would like access to SBS so watch some awful boring road race over cobblestones that night... I couldn't care less, just want somewhere clean!

Thank you!!

The Rydges at Eaglehawke were advertising rooms form $98.

There is the Gateway Motel at Watson as well.

thank you!!!

Why dont you do as your team says and just spend another night at the Mont Hilton like me

Blondie, I forgotten about Queanbean, there are a nice couple of motels in the main street just as you come into town from Bungendonia (& Kowen), also the caravan park has some onsite units which are quite clean. You are in walking distance to such gourmet delights as Maccas, KFC, Hungry Jacks & the Central Cafe (the Central is the pic of the bunch by far).

& as far as I know there is TV in Queanbeyan........

Yeah I would stay in Queanbeyan rather than Canberra for what you're looking for - closer, simpler, and not out-of-the-way for your trip back. (Make sure you lock you stuff up though ;) )

The other option is to stay in Bungendore (which is just east of the Mont site). It has a quaint little village vibe, a couple of motels or whatnot according to Google, and it's more touristy in general. It would add 20 minutes to your drive home though.

For practicality you couldn't beat the Queanbeyan caravan park's onsite cabins though. Classy.. ;)

Yep +1 for the Central ...

Had dinner there last Friday night, before the David Bowie tribute show .....

Mmmmm rare Surf and Turf .....

thank you all!!

I am fairly sure Sean, who likes to act fast when its fun things, like accommodation, bike comps, bike parts etc. and supremely SLOW when its things like putting out the rubbish, booked Rydges yesterday afternoon... bit posh I thought...but hey! Who am I to argue...

Wayne, are people allowed to camp there the Sunday night then? I thought we would all be kicked out...

I am pretty sure they allow (encourage?) people to camp Sunday night as well, to avoid fatigue related accidents like happened in 2009 ;)

yes, we drove past that just after it had happened. Wasn't nice at all.

Last  year I didn't even make it  Goulburn before I needed a nap by the side of the road - that was our first four man team...bit of a shock to the system but we are more prepared for no sleep now... she says with optimism

Yes you can camp there on Sunday night. You can also move in to one of the corporate tents that vacate too. But I am sure the shower at Ridges will be worth it. Oh, and the SBS, Roubaix?
They can try and drag my grumpy sorry sleep deprived arse out of there Sunday night but like Craig said , they are encouraging the Sunday to avoid more carnage . I will keep my eye on a nice corporate tent with a view I think ...
Roubaix is enough to make me want to camp...
