The Berm

Canberra's Mountain Biking community network

Hi, I've just moved to Canberra from the Isle of Man and I'm looking to learn some local trails. I've ridden Stromlo and Majura Pines a few times (both excellent) and have just signed up for the 100k Capital Punishment (not sure if that was a good move or not!!)

I'm not an "elite" rider, but can keep a reasonable pace over distance - if there's anyone out there happy to show me round, I'd really appreciate it. I can do any time apart from Monday, Wednesday and Friday evenings.

Also, what are the CORC dirt crits like? - I was thinking of having a go at the one tomorrow...

Hi Pete, welcome to the land of milk & honey... :P

I was going to say come along to the Wednesday social ride. Anyway, keep a look out for rides in the events area as there is always soemthing on. Nathaniel Peek said he was heading out for a few rides this week, I am sure that you will be more than welcome.

Hey Pete, I am still on holidays and will be heading out several times over the next 5 days or so.  If you are keen give me a call on 0427045638.

Peter,  here's some footage of the Dirt Crits....I'll be there tonight, its heaps of fun.....I'm the clown in the bright blue Pedal 4 Pierce shirt.....hopefully see you there....could even go for a quick spin after the races :-)

I definitely recommend the Dirt Crits. They're great fun - hectic! But great fun :)

Cheers all for the replies. Really looking forward to learning some new trails and the dirt crits look excellent fun!! - Sadly I did get a bit carried away at Stromlo this morning, and have to work late to make up the hours! Means I won't be there tonight :(

Good luck to everyone taking part - hopefuilly see you there next week!

Glad you like the vid....it is a heap of fun....Stromlo would have been awesome this morning.....was pretty good last night too!  I'll be home alone week after next so will be riding each night except for Tuesday so welcome to tag along as I'll be riding Sparrow, Kowen, Stromlo and Majura :-)  But not all at once!

That sounds great! Will give you a shout towards the end of next week - I'll have a better idea about work/family commitments by then :)

All good mate, speak soon.

eh up me ol duk

I'm new to this site and Canberra. I am from Nottingham.  More of a cycle tourer really but i bought a 29er about 6 mons before I left as i wanted to do some off-road touring.  I am also into strength training so am also interested in the crits as they look like explosive sprints to me. But, i'll give anything a go as i just love being on two wheels.  I am reasonably fit but I am 40 so lost a yard or two of pace but my daily commute is 28.5km so i have some juice in me legs.  However, if you're a serious racer then i might not be the best companion.  I am yet to go out on any trails here as i have been waiting for my bikes to arrive but they are here now so if you fancy going out then let me know.  I have transport and it would be great to hook up with someone from back home

Chris,  I'm free all day Thursday (Australia Day) as the family are at the coast.....I'm keen to ride most of the day starting at Stromlo, then probably going out to Majura, nothing super fast so if you are keen then as a fellow Pom we can celebrate Aussie Day in true English fashion ;-)

Great. Let me talk to the decision-maker and get back to you.  defo interested mate.  me missus might tag along and she'll read a book while we're out on the trails.  she can brew the tea!
