Has anyone tried the super light Jet Black Brake Rotors (68 grams)? I'm building some new wheels and while these are amazingly light, I'm wondering if they compromise quality for weight?

I run them on my 29er dually. 180/160 front/rear. I got them when my wheel changes to 6 bolt. I'm not a weight weeny...they were just at a very good price at the LBS at the time.

Performance wise, I have found them very good when paired with XT brakes. I'm a big bloke and them slow me down very well. I have not had any issues with overheatering of brake fade on the local canberra trails that I ride.

I have them as well as they made pink ones!

Not had any problems at all - bar one exception getting stuck on a tree on a night ride but one of the boys put it back in shape for me. I have used them since I have had  my bike - Mont 2010...

I also run them on my Anthem 29er - using Avid Elixir CR brakes.

I got them because of price mainly, and I had warping issues with the original Avid and replacement Hope discs. So figured some non-floating discs might be better.

I have had zero problems, they work perfectly fine. No brake fade, no real loss of braking power. They are louder than others though (which doesn't bother me at all - if it bothers you, brake less ;) )

I haven't had them long enough to tell whether the increase in "non-disc" area increases the brake pad wear rate - my theory is that they may wear pads faster, but I have not read anything to that effect so, so far so good.

Definitely recommended (mainly due to price).
Yup same comments as the other two guys and one gal - good price and no issue with quality at all. I run them on all three MTB's now and actually prefer them over the SLX rotors I use to run, I seem to get less fade, this may be due to their minimal design being able to cool quicker. But I could be talking out of my arse.

Steve - talk to me about your theory on pad wear.

Ah it's only a baseless theory - that the reduced surface area of the disc means more force on the actual braking face of the disc - and maybe more wear, either on the pads and disc, or just disc wear.

... But that doesn't really seem to be the case from what anyone else has found so I now think I'm wrong and should stop thinking and just ride! :)

Thanks all,

You have made up my mind - i'll get some. Will be interesting to see if they really are only 68 grams. If they are anything like my hoops they'll be heavier...

Thanks Steve, I was looking at Hope also but I will go with the others now.
