Ah yeah the berm gear fools the camera into making it look like the rider is fast which is real bonus :)

There are some great ones of everyone I think.  It wouldn't be the same without Ben's start line poses hey!  There are many shots of the Stromlo downhill bit and not-so-many of the first 3/4 of the 100k but that's to be expected since only half the total riders rode those parts.

I loved the warning signs 50m before most photo spots - it gives time to pull a funny face.

Steve I looked at your photos, didnt look like you at first without your blue jersey. You looked very pro and the Berm outfit looked extra pro :)

Good to see Ben managed his usual poses

Hi James,

I like the dot point style ... easy to read and similar (in style not content) of how I remember my race.

Interested to hear you felt the humidity on the start line. The coolness for the first half of the race tricked me into not drinking enough and paid for it later. But as per some of our chats at dirt crits, we need to learn what works for us individually and as this was my first 100, I can't be too upset ... missed my race time goal by 5 mins but with the cramping I got, not too bad. I was on track to beat my time goal by 30min so had to adapt during the ride. I managed all the major climbs which is where my training has been on Thursday's rather than crits.

Now need to get ready for easter, and did a small ride for half the track out there today so recovery is going well.

PS give my congratulations to Kylie for her win.

I think that everyone battles the same demons out there on the track during a race! The only difference is in race time over the course of the day. This may come down to natural physiology or training volume or created ability.

I get a weekly massage, and I can not wait until friday for mine to unkink things for the Mont this weekend.

Usually, I can keep the cramps at bay (appropriate training and sufficient nutrition intake plus electrolytes), but if it is really hot or humid, then for me as a ranga, they can creep in. The humidity got me pretty bad on Saturday, plus it was pretty warm for a race of this distance.

I am also wondering if there is still a lot of crap out there due to the warmer weather that causes allergies. I can't wait for the cooler weather to kick in to be honest.

I also reckon that the 50km course was a brutal one this year. definitely way tougher than previous years.

Great write up James, thanks :) I often wonder if you superhero guys have cramps, stacks, feel like a dead log riding a bike, mechanicals, get pissed off by headwinds etc etc and its kind of nice to know that you do :)

Was my first 50k race and I had a massive calf cramp in my sleep Friday night so my left leg gave me grief from about 20k onwards, I couldnt put pressure on it for climbing without it on the verge of a cramp,  so just slowly slowly made my way through that shitty 9k (pun get it :p) fireroad. I was so happy to get back onto familiar ST after that.

I had a deep tissue massage to try and free up my left leg last night, hurt to buggery with me arched up in pain clinging onto the massage bed but wow the leg feels so much better today, can almost walk normal today :)

All ready now to start our 9 day cycling trip on saturday in Vietnam with no racing pressure or 100's of guys coming smashing up behind me trying to pass on the downhill. Just slow easy going riding through the hills in north Vietnam and boy am I looking forward to it :)

no worries guys!

My hamstrings are still super tight, as is my lower back. (hardtail pleasures obviously)

My forearms feel pretty pumped up still from all the rough stuff.

Cheers to David from the forum for the photo over the tabletops. Cramping like a mofo up and down stromlo, I was just doing barely enough to avoid seizing up all the way through stromlo!
